We laced up Netflix's Stranger Things with Atlanta's skate culture, creating an authentic 80s throwback.
BACKGROUND
Netflix enlisted Creative Noize to concept and produce an immersive experience that would bring Stranger Things Season 4 to life during the VIP kickoff of CultureCon’s inaugural Atlanta event. The goal: tap into the cultural heartbeat of Atlanta in a way that felt true to both the Stranger Things universe and Netflix’s Strong Black Lead audience, while delivering a standout moment that resonated with press, tastemakers, and the broader creative community.

APPROACH
We began by digging into the narrative and aesthetic layers of Stranger Things Season 4, grounding ourselves in the themes, iconography, and 80s references that made the series iconic. But instead of relying on tropes, we took a more intentional route—one that honored Atlanta’s local identity and gave real access to the city’s skate community, a cultural epicenter that often operates outside the mainstream lens. The result was Skater Things—an 80s-inspired roller skating experience hosted at the legendary Cascade skating rink. We reimagined the venue with branded environmental design, Stranger Things projections, analog photo booths, curated music, and on-theme food and beverage—all while inviting Atlanta’s Black and Latinx pro skaters, influencers, creatives, and media voices to take center stage. The event was intimate, immersive, and most importantly, culturally accurate.
IMPACT
With zero pre-event promotion, Skater Things generated over 3 million organic social impressions and created a meaningful connection between Netflix’s brand and Atlanta’s Black creative class. The activation served as a case study in how intentional partnerships and localized storytelling can elevate IP in a way that feels both premium and personal. For Netflix, this wasn’t just a party—it was a moment of cultural fluency that aligned their global brand with a hyperlocal pulse.
